The New Zealand Health Education Association (NZHEA) – formerly the New Zealand Health Teachers’ Association is a professional non-profit organisation and incorporated society that has been supporting the teaching of health education in New Zealand schools for over 20 years.
The objectives of the NZHEA are to:
- Promote and encourage the teaching of Health Education at all levels of the education system.
- Provide information, advice and support to members on pedagogy, assessment, resources, and other curriculum related areas.
- Represent, advance and provide professional guidance and support for its members and their interests at the national level.
- Act as a consultative body with the Ministry of Education and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority in the development of the national Health Education curriculum and assessment.
- Establish close working links with other health associations and the tertiary sector.
The NZHEA is managed by an Executive Committee, who meet at least three times per year and is made up of elected representatives from each region.
NZHEA is supported by Health Education Associations throughout New Zealand, namely Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. These regional branches are responsible for strengthening local initiatives and providing support, advice and resources to members in their areas.
